Professor Xu received his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 1998 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, after he finished his thesis work on X-ray study of galaxy clusters at the University of Tokyo, Japan, as a government exchange student supported by the Monbusho Scholarship. From 2000 to 2001 he worked as a post- doctorial research scientist at Columbia University, USA, and led a high quality X-ray spectroscopic study of the early-type galaxy NGC 4636. His research field covers multi-band study of galaxies and galaxy clusters, low frequency radio experiment and observation of cosmic reionization era and first generation celestial objects, and atomic astrophysics.

Research Interests:
X-ray imaging spectroscopic study of galaxies, galaxy groups, and galaxy clusters;
Dark matter distributions;
First generation objects in the universe and cosmic reionization;
Low-frequency radio experiment and observation
