Public Lecture

Title: Quantum phase transitions in spin systems and ultracold gases

Speaker: Robert Garisto, Editor, PRL

Location: Room 111, Physics Building

Time: 14:30-15:30, Mon, Oct 27, 2014
 Abstract:
This will be a view inside of Physical Review Letters (PRL). I will describe how the review process works, how we pick our highlighted papers, and how things have changed since we reaffirmed standards a year ago.  I will also present some illuminating statistics and talk about journal metrics. If there is time, I will show some interesting and illustrative correspondence. And I will give you some advice on how to succeed with your PRL submissions.

Biography:
Robert received his Ph.D. in theoretical high energy physics at the University of Michigan, and then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Canadian National Lab TRIUMF. He joined PRL in 1994. Robert was elected an APS Fellow in 2013.
